Knowing the word of God

Luke 23:46 “And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” Having said this, He breathed His last." Fulfillment Jesus speaks one last time. After declaring the work of the cross finished He then commits His spirit to the Father. He has endured ridicule, beatings, a crown of thorns, humiliation and the cross out of His great love for us. He has fulfilled prophecy time and time again. Psalm 22:16-18 says: "For dogs have surrounded me; the congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots." David wrote the words of Psalm 22. And he wrote these words, "they pierced my hands and my feet" some 500 years or so before crucifixion was even invented as a form of execution by King Darius of the Persians in 519 BC. There was no form of execution that existed wh...

Knowing the word of God

John 19: 29-30 "Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit." It is Finished After Jesus made the statement, "I thirst", they then dipped hyssop into sour wine and brought it to His mouth. It is after this act that He declares the work of the cross to be finished. Hyssop was what was used during the Passover to sprinkle the blood of the lamb onto the doorposts of the home. His work as our Passover Lamb, the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world, was completed. Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples prior to His arrest. That supper was in fact a Passover Seder. The bread He broke was matzah. He said "This is my body." The reason He said this is because, if you look at a piece of matzah you will see it is bruised, it is pierced and ...

Knowing the word of God

John 19: 28 "After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, 'I thirst!'" Living Water The scripture this verse is referring to is Psalm 69:21 "They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink." The events of the cross are a culmination of a multitude of messianic prophecies. This statement He makes from the cross is no different. But I believe Jesus is saying more than that with these two words. This verse says He knew all things were accomplished. He was done. He had completed the work He had come to the world to complete. He was about to give up His spirit and in the final moments of bearing the sins of the world on His shoulders he says, "I thirst". There was another time Jesus was thirsty. In John 4:7-14, Jesus speaks to the Samaritan woman: "A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink." For His dis...

Knowing the word of God

John 19: 26-27 "When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home." Family Jesus looks down from the cross and sees His mother, Mary standing alongside John, the disciple Jesus loved. He once again chooses to withstand the pain to speak. This time, He essentially instructs John to care for His mother. But He also entrusts John to Mary as well. Here He is demonstrating for us His unwavering love and care for us. He is instructing us as a Church to care for one another. We are family. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. But even more than that, He is also showing us how much He loves us and cares about every single detail of our lives. In the midst of bearing the weight of the sins of the world on His shoulders He shows this moment of love and care. This is a picture of...

Knowing the word God

Luke 23:43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise"." Freedom Jesus once again speaks from the cross, this time to a thief. Once again Jesus, bloodied, bruised and beaten lifts himself up to utter words of salvation to a man who recognized Him as the Messiah, something learned Pharisees and Sadducees failed to do. The two thieves on the cross could be seen to represent the two states of mankind; one a state of rejection of Jesus and one of recognition and acceptance. One thief mockingly demanding proof from Jesus! “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” (Luke 23:39) But the other thief chastises him and says, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” (Luke 23:40) The thief then asks Jesus to remember him when He comes into His Kingdom. And Jesus, demonstrating salva...

Knowing the word of God

Luke 23:34 "Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Forgiveness Jesus had been mocked, scorned, rejected, ridiculed and denied. His closest friends and followers had fled and abandoned Him. He had been beaten, spit upon, knocked down and nailed to a cross. In Luke 23:35 it says 'And the people stood looking on.' But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God".' This aligns with the prophetic verse in Psalm 22:7-8: "All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, “He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” One of the two thieves on the crosses alongside Jesus, in Luke 23:39 challenged Him by saying, "“If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” And yet, in the midst of this, He shows His limitless compassion and grace. "They know not ...

Knowing the word of God

Matthew 27:46 "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli,lama sabachthani? that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsake Me?” Question or Quote? This may not be the first statement Jesus utters from the cross but I felt it was an important one to start with, because it goes a long way to illustrate why Jesus said the things He did on the cross. Jesus was not speaking arbitrarily when He spoke these and other phrases on Calvary. Each statement was deliberately made to demonstrate He was the awaited Messiah. First, you have to understand how much effort went into speaking when one was being crucified. While hanging on the cross, all the weight of a person was pulled downward. This made it difficult if not next to impossible to breathe. In order to take in enough oxygen to stay alive, let alone speak, one had to push their weight up off the nail that held their feet to the cross. Speaking was painful, and utilized the precious litt...

Knowing the word of God

The word “hope” has two meanings in the Bible. The first, tiqvah, contains the sense of eager anticipation or waiting. The second, elpis, depicts a sense of confident expectation based on certainty. Biblical faith is secured by God’s faithfulness to His promises. For the Old Testament leaders, their hope in the Messiah's arrival. For us, the hope of the Messiah’s return. "But you, Bethlehem, only a small village in Judah, yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from a distant past ... And He will stand to lead His flock with the Lord's strength ... Then His people will live undisturbed, for He will be highly honored all around the world. And He will be the source of our peace." (Micah 5:2, 4-5) Christ's deity and humanity are shown here -- He is a shepherd, leading with the strength of God, bringing peace to His people. The precision of God's promises proclaimed and fulfilled inspire us continually to hope in God. The hope of Christ...

Knowing the word of God

1 Corinthians 14:26-33 New King James Version (NKJV) Order in Church Meetings 26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for [a]edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of [b]confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

Knowing the word of God

2 Corinthians 7:1- Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all fitness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Walking in the newness of life in God, which is in the holiness of Him, and His perfect spirit. We are made holy in God, there is nothing we can be lacked of in this life, when we are living in God. All we need He supplies, The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want: Psalms 23:1. We are only perfected in Christ, in Him we are made holy and our spirit renew daily. Knowing the way of life, is meditating on the word of God, living by every word of God. Man shall not live my bread alone but by every word procedeth out of the mouth of God. We have to know how to live each day, everyday is a day given by God to enhance the life of others as much as you can. We ought not to live for ourselves, live is about sharing, giving and loving. Knowing the love of God will let you walk on such path. God thought us how to give, H...

Knowing the word of God

I Thessalonians 5:16  Be joyful always…. Joy does not equal Happiness. Happy comes from the word “happenstance” which means “a chance happening.” Being happy is reliant on what is happening in your life. Being joyful is a state of being. It flows from your heart. It is an inner emotion, not dependent on how great your life is going at the moment. As Tanya Thompson shared in her testimony she had to go through domestic abuse and much suffering but she had the joy of Jesus in her heart and now is ministering to those being hurt by abuse! We have a hope, peace, love, and salvation in Christ that is beyond just happiness. Have you been joyful while unhappy? We challenge you to feel joy even when you are in an unhappy time in your life. We pray that the joy of salvation is your strength today! Let your joy be the joy that is described in 1 Peter 1:8-9: 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpr...
